Description
A K-Wire, also known as a Kirschner Wire, is a thin orthopaedic fixation wire used to stabilise bone fragments during selected trauma and reconstructive procedures. It may provide temporary fixation during surgery or remain in position as part of the chosen fixation technique.
As a surgical instrument manufacturer in India, we supply K-Wires and bone surgery products to hospitals, distributors, procurement companies, healthcare organisations, and OEM partners worldwide.
Kirschner Wires are available in different diameters, lengths, tip profiles, and surface designs. Common configurations include smooth wires, partially threaded wires, fully threaded wires, trocar-point tips, and diamond-point tips.
The selected wire can be inserted using a compatible manual or powered orthopaedic drill. Depending on the procedure, imaging may be used to guide placement and confirm the final position.
K-Wire Uses
K-Wires help hold bone fragments in the required position during fracture management. Their narrow profile makes them suitable for selected small-bone procedures and situations where larger fixation devices may not be appropriate.
During surgery, a wire may be advanced through one or more bone fragments to maintain alignment. It can also provide preliminary stabilisation before plates, screws, nails, or other implants are applied.
Kirschner Wires may be used as guide wires for compatible cannulated drills, screws, or implant systems. In these applications, the wire establishes the intended path for the next instrument or implant.
Additional uses may include skeletal traction, external fixation, corrective procedures, and temporary stabilisation during fracture reduction. The exact technique depends on the anatomical site and operative plan.
Smooth K-Wire
A smooth K-Wire has a plain shaft without a threaded section. This design is widely used for temporary fixation, fracture reduction, and selected definitive fixation techniques.
Smooth wires are available with different tip profiles. Trocar-point and diamond-point options may be supplied according to the required configuration.
Threaded K-Wire
A threaded K-Wire includes threads along part or all of its working section. The threads can provide additional purchase within bone when required by the selected fixation technique.
Options may include partially threaded and fully threaded patterns. Available thread lengths and wire dimensions depend on the product configuration.
Benefits of Kirschner Wires
The slim design supports fixation in confined anatomical areas and small bone fragments. Multiple diameter options also allow the surgeon to select a wire suited to the bone size and planned procedure.
K-Wires can support temporary reduction while other fixation components are positioned. In addition, selected wires can guide compatible cannulated instruments and implants.
Straight construction promotes controlled insertion through a suitable drill or wire driver. Clearly marked sizes can also simplify selection and organisation within orthopaedic sets.

Material & Quality
K-Wires are manufactured from suitable surgical-grade stainless steel according to the selected specification. Production focuses on shaft straightness, dimensional consistency, tip formation, thread accuracy, and surface quality.
Each production batch is inspected for diameter, length, point geometry, thread profile where applicable, and overall finish. Packaging is selected according to whether the wires are supplied sterile or non-sterile.
As part of our range of rongeurs and cutters, Kirschner Wires can be supplied in selected sizes and configurations for professional orthopaedic use.
Export-Ready Instruments
Salwan Surgicare supplies K-Wires to hospitals, distributors, procurement companies, healthcare organisations, and medical equipment dealers across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, East Asia, South Asia, North America, and South America.
OEM manufacturing, private labelling, and customised packaging are available for qualified partners. Selected diameters, lengths, tip designs, thread configurations, and product markings may be supplied for suitable orders.
Secure export preparation helps protect wire straightness, tips, threads, and packaging during storage and international transportation.
